Modron Zin

A tertian modron from Dungeons & Dragons redesigned and painted for an upcoming issue of Dungeon Magazine. My penciled line art on the left and digital painted version on the right.

The Art Director wanted to incorporate the old (D&D 1st ed) Monster Manual 2 look of the tertian with something a bit more solid and imposing - this is how it turned out. I'm pretty happy with it.

From the art notes:
Zin is a tertian modron, a humanoid creature that looks almost as if he’s made of stone. Bald, his eyebrows jut out to either side of his head in hornlike protrusions. His muscular body is dark, almost as if carved from onyx, and his feet are more like those of an elephant than a human. His tail is long and prehensile, and is tipped with a ball of smooth stone. What appears to be a brown vest and pants are actually simply differently colored parts of his body.
