Live the dream, don't talk about it!Doug TenNapel, independent comics creator, is an inspiration to me in many ways. He has a fun, accessible art style that is dramatic and fresh. His story telling is always askew in the best of ways. I don't think I've read one of his graphic novels without having some smiles and a surprise or two along the way. On top of that, he is outspoken about almost everything in his life. (I think of him as the Rush Limbaugh of comics- oh man, that sounds really bad, but early Rush, not present day Rush, if that helps.) I agree with most things he states on Facebook. BUT- the thing I am most inspired about him is his drive (in the old days we would call that "work ethic"). The guy does NOT give up. Because of that, he single-handedly will put out a new graphic novel a year. While creating a webcomic. While pitching new TV show development ideas in Hollywood. While running a half marathon. While working freelance jobs.

Tutorial Tuesday: ProcessHey everyone. I'm really swamped this week. So I hope you don't mind that for this week I just show you some of my art process instead of a "how to draw" tutorial. I guess this is more of a "How to plan out your art" tutorial. If you like seeing my process you can see more when I talked about "How to make a Comic", "Process", and "Tones".

So believe it or not this page was conceived about 7-8 years ago... (wow, this comic has been a long time coming). I didn't know where I wanted this to happen in my story, but I knew I wanted it to happen.

Hope you are all well.
Thank you all for taking the time to fill out the poll, it seems the majority of you that took part, love the idea of extra assignments outside of those set by C+P's Matt Kohr.
In response to this, we will be assigning Bi weekly 'tasks', here is an example:

Before I get onto this weeks task, I'd like to say a big, WELL DONE to the people who did some lip studies, they are really great. It is always interesting to see the different approaches people take.

This week - Gestural drawing.
The purpose of gestural drawing is to capture the ‘essence’ of a pose/movement very quickly.
Because of this the drawing need to be quick/fluid and lively.
Now these aren’t meant to look pretty, they are meant to catch the energy of the pose/movement.
This exercise is for you, so just let loose and go for it.

HOW TO FIGHT ARTBLOCK!!!!;'D SO I NOTICED MANY OF YOU HAVE ARTBLOCK.
I had artblock too. It was a pain. SO THIS IS HOW I WAS ABLE TO GET RID OF IT.
1. Draw lots of fanart. (you can just sketch things out. You don't have to color. and you don't have to upload. just to see if you can still draw. thats what i do.
2. Look at your self in the mirror. Pose. and try drawing that.
3. try sketching out nature thats outside. (Try to draw somthing that looks cool)
4. Try drawing somthing that you ususally don't draw. (ex. Realistic horses and animals. things like that.)
5. Try to draw things that you wanted to draw ever since. (what I want to draw is a girl standing in the rain,humanoid with cords connecting to it,someone drowning,somone flying,a sunset.
6. try animating. (this helps you with poses aswell.)
Well goodluck. Thease methods usually helps me with artblock. Thats why I'm trying to draw all the singing/talking synthesizers. ._.

This weeks assignment is pretty straightforward and doesn't require much lecture. You all are to experiment with the details of your character's facial structure and expression. lineart/colouring this winter term. I'm quite excited about this because
this is the first time I'll be teaching anything, especially digital

1st week - General steps to a digitally done lineart, preparing a traditional lineart/sketch for colouring digitally and colouring the lineart itself.
